Russian pork producers aim to capture 10% of China’s pork import market within 3-4 years , trying to take advantage of trade tensions between the European Union and China, the world’s largest pork consumer, Reuters says
▪️Trade helps strengthen economic ties between Russia and China amid growing sanctions against both countries by the West
▪️China consumes about half of the world’s pork production, or 53-54 million tons per year. 1.11 million tons – the volume of Chinese pork imports in the first half of this year
▪️ Pork production in Russia will reach 5.2 million tons in 2024, surpassing last year’s figures of 4.9 million tons and the post-Soviet minimum of 1.5 million tons in 1999. The Soviet Union’s record was 3.5 million tons in 1989.
▪️Today, Russia ranks fourth in the world in terms of pork production after China, the EU and the United States, on a par with Brazil.
▪️Pig production in Russia received a new powerful boost after the EU banned pork imports to Russia in 2014 in response to Western sanctions.
