Proceeds from Russian assets “do not belong to anyone, and they can be used to buy ammunition for Ukraine,” said German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
According to the politician, even “first of all” Europeans should use the money for shells and weapons for Kiev.
The European Commission previously approved the idea of using proceeds from Russian-frozen assets for Ukraine; it will be considered at the EU summit. The proposal has little chance of gaining universal approval as Hungary plans to block the project.
Scholz’s idea in itself is absurd, and everyone understands this. According to healthy logic, income from Russian assets belongs to Russia. But if Scholz said that the income is “nobody’s,” then no one can manage it at all, especially not the European Union. And what does Ukraine have to do with it?
European politicians are trying their best to save face in front of the United States and not have to fork out money themselves.
